Long Time No Post...

Howdy,

Long time no... anything. We are still in hibernation mode, company wise, but on a personal note I have now finished three books.

The newest of which is called "A Walk Beyond The Breach". Book 3 in the "A Walk Beyond" series of books. And these aren't no short stories if you're wondering. These are full on novels, with the newest being over 450 pages. Filled with a bit of everything, from drama, mystery, adventure, and even horror. So if you need a break from the insanity of the world around you go ahead and grab a copy and enjoy the escape.

I have also started on a fourth book (completely unrelated to the three listed above). A stand alone novel entitled "The Eldritch Life Of Leopold Torpid",

It's a full on twisted horror novel set in the late 19th century, filled with monsters, magic, and unspeakable horrors. It's gonna be fun. So keep your eyes peeled for this one.

I Can't Seem To Escape It...

No matter what I seem to do I cannot get away from audio in one form or another.

As proof may I present my latest project...

An audio book, if you can believe it. Yes it is the audio book for my first novel "A Walk Beyond The Realm".

Over 11 hours of yours truly, reading and doing character voices. If you think making music can be tough, try taking on one of these monster bad boys. It is truly a unique experience.

Info for those interested...

As most of you may have figured out, CopperGear is no longer actively creating new equipment. This is due to a few reasons which I won't get into, but what it means is we are going to shuffle off into the background for a while until such a time as when we can come back guns blazing.

On a personal note, in an attempt to keep myself from going insane, I have actually had two books published in the last year. They are fantasy novels that favor more hopeful overtones than grimdark. The first is called "A Walk Beyond The Realm" and the second is titled "A Walk Beyond The Graves". Both are available in paperback and e-book format. Audio books for both are on their way as well. Check them out if you're looking for something different to read. You can keep up with the books and other info on my blog or through facebook.

Farewell my dearest friend...

Farewell my friend for now you rest

our time has come to a close.

The years we spent together

forever I will hold.

You always stared in wonder

at the world beyond the glass.

And even when you faltered

you did it with grace and class.

You were playful in the silliest ways

even when you'd grown.

And you filled me with a glowing warmth

that I had never known.

Always there beside me

through the good times, and the bad.

You even sat there lovingly

as I became a dad.

Teacher and protector

a role you did in kind.

And shared a love that he will carry

till the end of time.

A journey now that you begin

that leaves my heart in shards.

I will be with you again my friend

out amongst the stars.

Pedal Name Change...

Hey all,
I know, I know long time no talk to, more on that later.

Anyway, a while back I promised a pedal that we would be letting out of the cage at the 2013 DIGF called the "Quiver Machinate". Well we brought it and let lots of people play with it. It became quite the darling of our booth when we told people we weren't really sure how to classify the effect. Lots of people wanted to try it and see what they thought, and after lots of strumming we had a pretty decent answer.

It has officially been dubbed a "Warmth Pedal".

Players loved the way they could dial in low frequencies and boost them with a very subtle shimmer effect. They would click the stomp switch back and forth and just slowly strum chords. It was exciting to watch a lot of the players close their eyes and lean ever so slightly forward as the effect hit them like a warm breeze on a cool autumn night. And the more they played the more they were able to coax out of the little copper box at their feet.

This left us with a problem, the name "Quiver Machinate" just didn't fit, and most people agreed.

So it has officially been renamed the "Ember Machinate".

Same great sound. More fitting name.

And it is coming soon to our pedal selection.

Stentorian Regulator

Stentorian Regulator Custom Shop Combo Amp

The ubiquitous combo amp, has taken many forms over the years. From tiny little night stand cubes to monstrous towers of ear shattering delight. There's practically one available for every occasion.

So in true CopperGear fashion we designed the Stentorian Regulator to be more than just another combo amp. Based around the Stentorian Standard 2x12 cab the SR was designed to be a real working man's combo.
We love the look of the tubes and the hardware usually kept hidden away inside most amps, but there has always been a fear with exposed hardware (usually as a head unit) of easily damaging it while gigging. Be it from knocking it off the speaker cab, mishandling, or any other number of reasons. So we mounted the head unit to the underside of the top panel. This flip-top configuration is not only meant to help protect the amp components (i.e. knobs, switches, transformers, and tubes) when closed, but to show them off in all of their gear head glory when fully opened and ready to play.

And just like our Stentorian Standard 2x12 cab the SR is set on wheels with an easy move handle built into the top for when your ready to hit the road. The flip-top design also means that when closed you can place a different head unit on top and still utilize the SR as a 2x12 cab. The cabinet is made of 3/4" solid wood thru and thru. No MDF or plywood here. Featuring a stacked speaker arrangement with 2x12" speakers of your choosing or use our standard configuration with 2 Jensen JCH 12/70's 8ohm (U.S. version is the Jensen MOD12-70) can be setup for either 4 or 16 ohm. The speakers themselves are reassessed 5" inside the cab. Due to the reassessed speakers the cabinet projects sound with a surprising amount of force and directionality.

As for the amp. We can incorporate one of your choosing (if it's possible) or pick from one of the standard models we use in house. We can customize the standard models with different tone stacks and pre-amp configurations to suit your needs.

Standard Models Include:

    5 Watt, 1 Channel, Class A Power Amp
    12AX7 Pre-amp, EL84 Output
    Bass, Treble, and Volume Controls
Or
    60 Watt, 1 Channel, Class AB Push/Pull Power Amp
    12AX7 Pre-amp, 12AT7 Phase Inverter, and a matched pair of EL34's or 6L6GC's Output
    Bass, Treble, and Volume Controls

And that's just the beginning.

Just about every gigging musician with an open back combo or cab tosses their guitar cables in the bottom of the cabinet. Which in itself is a great way to utilize space, and not leave your favorite cable coiled up on a dark stage never to be seen again.
We loved that idea so much we took it one step further. On the inside of the SR we can install hooks or velcro straps to keep all your cables safe, tidy, and ready to go at a moments notice. We can even build a felt lined lockable drawer/box into the bottom to store whatever miscellaneous whatnots you may desire.

Tired of not having enough power outlets for all your gear on stage or wherever you may be. Have us install a shielded power strip or power conditioner in the bottom of the SR and never worry about it again. Power the SR, your pedal board, or even a M.A.D. Box ;)

Don't want to lug around or trip over a guitar stand while jamming. Then let us install a guitar hanger on one or both sides of the SR to keep your guitar(s) close at hand and out of the way. Safe and ready for when you need them.

We can even make an extra large version to accommodate for larger amps or more storage.

For the 2013 Dallas International Guitar Festival CopperGear needed a speaker cab to use with a small amp head for pedal demo purposes in our booth. Thus the Custom Shop Stentorian Standard was born. Our unconventional take on a 2x12" cab was so well received at the DIGF we are making the design a custom shop staple.

The cabinet itself is made of 3/4" solid wood thru and thru. No MDF or plywood here. It stands 3' 6" tall (w/wheels), 18" wide, and 16" deep.
Featuring a stacked speaker arrangement with 2x12" Jensen JCH 12/70's 8ohm (U.S. version is the Jensen MOD12-70) can be run in either 4 or 16ohm configuration. The speakers themselves are reassessed 5" inside the cab. Due to the reassessed speakers the cabinet projects sound with a surprising amount of force and directionality.

The cabinet sits on two sets of wheels. In the back are 2x2" fixed wheels, and 2x2" caster wheels in the front. Allowing easy mobility on stage or in the studio. On the top of the cabinet we built an easy grip handle right into the wood. So getting the cabinet where you want it is as easy as grab, tilt backwards, and go. No more dead arm from lugging those other 2x12 cabs around.

The pictured gold diamond is a simple wood frame covered in shear gold fabric. It's fixed 2" from the speaker fronts, and serves to add a touch of class as well as protection.

The finish shown on this piece is a black rubberized spray coating.

And all of this is just the beginning.

Since this is a custom shop piece it means it can be customized.
Want more than a 2x12"? How about a 4x12". Or insanity at its finest with a 6x12" or 8x12".
Or get 2 2x12" cabs and run stereo.
Ever thought of a 2x12" on the top with a 15" bass on the bottom so a guitarist and bassist can share the same cab?

How about a Black or white rubberized finish. Stained, natural, or laminate wood finishes.
Or we could even wrap it in brocade iridescent red metallic paisley fabric.
We can go as subtle or as off the wall weird as you desire.

Let us install hooks to keep your cables organized and close at hand.
Or even a felt lined box/drawer for miscellaneous things.

We can even install a guitar hook so you wont have to lug around or trip over a guitar stand.
When we say custom we mean it.

So many patrons of the 2013 DIGF were so shockingly pleased by the clarity, power, and functionality of its design we just could not, in good conscience, keep it to ourselves. And what we wound up with is a very unconventional cab, in a class all its own.
